Anna-Maria Kawatzopoulos made her debut in the opera production of the University of Music and Theatre Rostock as “Flosshilde” in Richard Wagner’s opera “Das Rheingold.” Further engagements followed in 2022 at the Vorpommern Theatre and in 2023/24 at the Mecklenburg State Theatre, as well as since 2024 at the Volkstheater Rostock.
Her engagements in the oratorio field take her throughout Germany. She particularly impresses in the alto roles of J.S. Bach’s Passions and Cantatas with her powerful depth and agility. In addition to Mendelssohn’s “Elias,” which received great resonance at the Lukaskirche Berlin, she performed under the direction of Hansjörg Albrecht with the Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach Choir Hamburg as a “Young Artist” in the alto part of Bruckner’s “Te Deum” at the Hauptkirche St. Michaelis Hamburg.
Anna-Maria Kawatzopoulos’s warm and rich mezzo-soprano impresses both with its extensive vocal range and its expressive power and clarity. Her voice is capable of coloratura and also possesses lyrical qualities. In addition, she captivates with her enormous expressive will and intense stage presence.
“…Anna-Maria Apostolina Kawatzopoulos convinces with her voluminous, beautiful, and characterful expressive mezzo-soprano voice. And she does so with a perceptible sensitivity to the nuances of a very special French musical language…” IOCO, Ekkehard Ochs, 2025
She gained competition experience as a participant in the Cantate Bach Competition 2022 in Greifswald.
Anna-Maria Kawatzopoulos is a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now.”
